Peaceful "Takeover"As of yesterday Comrades Europia and Cromien took over the leadership of the nation with Europia making the following statement:
~IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT~
Comrades, in recent times our beloved motherland has faced many crises. Against all odds we pulled through. Now we must look to the future and ask ourselves where we go from here. We need to map out for ourselves a clear path, which will put us back on track. That is what follows;
The name Peoples Republic of the New Soviet Empire will be returned as will the term micro-nation. The PRNSE will be a micro-nation just like it was before. It will rejoin the micro-national community and interact as is seen fit. It will be reformed and return to what have been called the "glory days" of the past. The CPI will continue to function and will expand into the micro-national community.
BUT,
the PRNSE will only be a Soviet Socialist Republic of a much larger nation, the USSR. The USSR will NOT be a micro-nation. It will be simulation of the former Soviet Union and will seek to continue where the first USSR left off, seeing if Comrade Gorbachev's reforms could really have worked. It will be governed under the 1977 constitution and run by President Fox. It will have its own "Communist Party of the Soviet Union" who, like in the former USSR, will be the governing party.
The PRNSE will be autonomous in most respects but will still be answerable to the government in "Moscow". The PRNSE will be under the leadership of myself as Premier and Comrade Conrad Cromien as General Secretary but we will also be answerable to "Moscow" and President Fox.
Though these changes may take some time to implement, they are effective as of today.
Europia
For those interested the original proposal made by Europia and Cromien was as follows:
Comrades, The following is a proposal for the preservation and growth of the The Rodina. There has been much confusion in the recent past as to what The Rodina will become. We have attempted to find a solution that both allows for our growth and gives us a clear understanding of what the Rodina will be. Please read the following proposal carefully and consider its value.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The Future of the Soviet Empire
Comrades, what we propose in this document is, we believe, the best way of ensuring the future success of the Soviet Empire. We are sure that it will allow the Soviet Empire not only to grow, but also to flourish. We propose the following;
The parent organisation be known as the Soviet Empire. This will be under the control of the President. It will be divide into 3 sections; the web site, the party and a micro-nation.
The Web site: This will be under the direct control of the President, Siberian Fox, who will serve as webmaster. The web site will continue to grow in the current fashion with the eventual aim of becoming one of the leading left wing sites on the web. The library and archives will be enlarged and there will be a single forum for general discussion (the web site, communism, current affairs etc.) not involving the micron-nation or party. This would provide a meeting place for like minded individuals. This section would fall entirely under the control of the webmaster/President.
The Party: The party will be under the control of the General Secretary but he will be answerable to the President. The party, known as the Communist Party of the Internet, will have a role both within the micro-nation and in respect to the web site. In the micro-nation the party will serve the same function as it always has. In respect to the web site it will have a new aim which is to both promote the Soviet Empire and attract new members from outside of the micro-nation and micro-national world. These members would then join the community making the Soviet Empire more successful.
The Micro-nation: This would be under the control of the Premier who is, like the General Secretary, answerable to the President. They, along with the General Secretary, would be responsible for the running of the micro-nation section of Soviet Empire and the Premier would deal with any tasks which the President would rather not. The micro-nation would be used to attract both serious communists to the Soviet Empire community and those people wishing to only take part in a micro-nation. The President only has to be involved in the micro-nation as much as he wants.
Under these proposals all sections are answerable to the President and his powers remiain virtually the same if not expanded.
We also believe that, if necessary, a USSR simulation could be included in the Soviet Empire (along with the micro-nation) and could then be used to attract visitors, though this would be at a later date.
Comrades, we offer to deal with the micro-nation side of Soviet Empire. We will build it and if it fails we will take responsibility. In our opinion the Rodina and therefore Soviet Empire cannot continue on its current path and we see this as the best alternative. This idea must at least be worth giving a try even if it is on a trial period. We hope that you will make the right decision.
Comrade Conrad Cromien Comrade Europia
This was thought about extremely carefully by Comrades Siberian Fox and jT who broke off a four- way chat session to go down the pub and talk the situation over in "real life". Taking into account the opinions of long standing members such as Sergei who expressed them via an e-mail and Red Liberator's known views, the following agreement was reached:
jT and myself have examined the proposal presented by Europia and Mathau and also read the opinions sent to us by Sergei, and have after about an hours discussion down the pub have come to the following solution.
We agree to allow the PRNSE to be reformed as it was under the leadership of a premier instead of myself.
We agree for the PRNSE to rejoin the micro-national community and interact as the leadership see fit.
We agree that the Premier and General Secretary should still be answerable to the President.
We agree that the CPI should be allowed to function in other micro-nations.
However:
Whilst the PRNSE is operating as it once was jT and myself will be working on a parallel project to build a simulation of the USSR.
The USSR shall then become the nation and the PRNSE will be a Soviet Socialist Republic of that nation.
In this way the PRNSE will be allowed to function as a micro-nation but will be only part of a much greater project. While the government of the PRNSE will be autonomous in most respects it will still be answerable to "Moscow".
Anyone will be free to join the nation by simply posting in the forum and taking part - anyone who posts will be a citizen. However the only way to get a government job will be to join the Communist Party of the Soviet Union. This will be made difficult and only suitable people will get government jobs - real communists.
I will be President of the USSR, which will be run under the old system of government (1977 constitution of the USSR). The S.S.Rs will be free to use direct democracy or any other form of government they choose.
While we would like for Marshal Sergei to join us in Moscow we could not deny him the opportunity to become premier of the PRNSE if he would like the job. It's your call Sergei. Otherwise I would hand the position to Comrade Europia.
Siberian Fox jT
As you may have guess buy now, Marshal Sergei decided to join the Government in Moscow when the U.S.S.R. is ready to go online rather than run the P.R.N.S.E.s.s.r.

NKVD Raids ApartmentIn news just coming in this morning the NKVD has stormed the apartment of Leonid I. Brezhnev, driving away shortly afterwards in a beige Trabant with blacked out windows. An official spokesperson for the NKVD made the announcement:
We have been watching this individual for some time, he has been in breach of section three A of the national Security act.
He is also suspected to have been involved in terrorist activities against our former General Secretary, comrade Andropov. However these reposts are unconfirmed. No one is quite sure where the NKVD have taken Leonid I. Brezhnev, but he has disappeared from the citizens list.
In other news, at the same time this morning our ministry of plenty - Gosplan II - announced that sales of concrete boots were up by 23% this month.

Further Efficiency ImprovementsThe People's Commissariat of External Affairs has been amalgamated into the People's Commissariat of Information (Commissariat of Truth) in a bid to further co-ordination between related tasks. The reason for there merge being that currently the role of the Commissariat of External Affairs is one of promoting our community wherever it is fitting to do so, yet it is the Commissariat of Information which is responsible for propaganda, hence the move was only logical.
Also in restructuring of this kind the editor of this Newspaper has been sacked. When Dmitri was originally hired it was on the understanding that he would update the news once a week. As this has failed totally to occur he has been relieved of his duties.

General Secretary ResignsIn a move that may have come as a surprise to some the good General Secretary Yuri Andropov has resigned from his position in the following statement issued on Saturday:
From: The Offices of the General Secretary Subj: Party Relations
Greetings Comrades, Fellow Citizens,
As you may know I have served the party for many months with much enthusiasm and dedication. I am well aware of both my successes and my failures as General Secretary. I feel in the past months my successes have outweighed my failures greatly; but as you know, this appears to be taking a change for the worse, through consistent crisis and solution. I am aware that my solutions were not without argument, and I am aware often times I have turned a blind eye to my critics. Perhaps it is time for someone else to carry the torch, someone who has the same enthusiasm and dedication that I once had. I now officially declare my resignation to the communist party. I know many of you may be shocked by this sudden surprise, but I assure you, there are many qualified individuals who are ever so eager to apply their ideas to this great creation we have before us. To be honest with you, I feel that I am not able to act for the benefit of the communist party anymore. I wish to hand the reigns over to a true patriot who can lead us further into glory. After given much thought and consideration, to a potential successor, so many names have crossed my mind and with so many dedicated servants to the masses I am not able to draw a conclusion on one person. I am however, certain that the people of this fine nation will have no troubles in deciding their fate. We have always been people of choice, people of freedom and people of expression. I am sure the right people will express their ideas, and this will ensure them a role in the leadership of the party. I suspect the transition of power will be a rapid transition without much conflict within the party cadres. I also expect, not only from myself, but from everyone, to give the new General Secretary the complete and unabridged support and patriotism that you have all shown me in the past months. With this I must bid you all farewell, as far as my future you may ask. I believe I shall retire in the countryside and collect my thoughts over the great opportunity in which I have been given. So farewell my fellow patriots and Long live the Revolution! ::Salutes::
(former) General Secretary Yuri V Andropov
The President was only able to issue a brief reply at the time due to a pressing appointment at NKVD headquarters, however he has given it some thought since and has chosen a successor.
Comrade Andropov first joined the Rodina back in the spring of this year, quickly rising through the ranks of the nations officials. His first job was as an agent working for the KGB and after several successful operations in counter espionage was awarded the Order of Lenin and promoted to Director of the KGB. Here Comrade Andropov stayed until General Secretary Misha was relieved of his duties due to being AWOL, and so he was promoted to the post of General Secretary. Over the following months Comrade Andropov took on an increasing number of responsibilities, including maintaining a website for the Party and admin for the nations discussion forums. Following his defence of the nation against an attack on these forums he was awarded Hero of the Rodina thus becoming the nations most highly decorated citizen.
There is some speculation about his reasons for resigning, ranging from being disillusioned with communism or the recent reforms to the nation, being tempted by capitalist opportunities in “real life” that were too good to miss and thus no longer having time to work in our nation, or even wanting to go spend his time with those he once worked against in his old KGB days for old times sake. The move was considered by the President to be expected due to the increasingly small amount of time the General Secretary had spent in the Rodina, however, it was never in doubt that the good General Secretary would do the honourable thing and allow another to take the driving seat for the benefit of the wider community. Long Live Comrade Andropov!
Appointed today as the new General Secretary was comrade Innumerablecaravan (Conrad Cromien) who has spoken with the President about a series of new ideas to take the nation to new heights after the vote on the new constitution passed with 75% support.
Long Live The Rodina!

Tiananmen Square The issue of the moment in the People's Forum seems to be a debate on the events of the 'notorious' Tiananmen Square incident, when allegedly Chinese Tanks crushed Students under their tracks. That at least is the popular image presented in the West and Comrade Red Liberator has taken it upon himself to set the record straight.
Immediately a storm of replies was generated in the forum after Red Liberator put forward the view that the Chinese army did not commit any atrocities in the square and that the army was only restoring order, after a number of civilians decided to take advantage of the long standing protest to start rioting in the capital. The details would take some time to include here but essentially - and perhaps inevitably - the debate moved onto one of is it possible to defend the actions of any 'communist' nations of the 20th century.
At one point the debate got so heated that the NKVD had to step in and remind people to stick to the issues rather than going for each other's throats or arrests would be made. Though there is no formal policy it is generally accepted that personal attacks in debates are bad form.

Vote on Constitutional ChangeAt 19:00 Eastern Standard Time last night General Secretary Andropov began the vote on accepting or rejecting the proposed new constitution for the Rodina. The new constitution includes a range of changes, the greatest being the reduction of the power of the Party Central Committee to a role in emergencies only. Should the vote pass then even in a national emergency the population at large must still be allowed a vote on new legislation as opposed to the emergency dictatorship which is the case at present.
Other changes in the new constitution proposal make the Rodina a more pure direct democracy by removing the need for the central committee to approve the text of legislation, however the Presidential veto present since the nations founding remains for legal reasons concerning the content of the national website. It is yet to be seen if this will appease those campaigning for total democracy despite the difficulties involved due to being constrained by website terms of service agreements. While it is unlikely that the Duma would vote to turn the nation into a porn site, the theoretical possibility is protected against in the current proposal by the Presidential veto.
In other news from last night, Commissar for Internal Affairs, A_Monk has give Army General Sergei full moderating powers for all the nation's discussion forums. After a discussion with fellow comrades jT and Siberian Fox after a trip to the local pub it was agreed that Sergei had showed his dedication to the nation over a long period of time and could be trusted not to do anything too crazy. The move was also prompted last night by the recent resignation of ScorchedCCCP, commissar for External Affairs and previous board moderator. The General Secretary himself appeared to be surprised by the sudden resignation of a long standing and truly good citizen but ScorchedCCCP cited his reasons being "I have many things that are going on in the macro-national world" rather than there being any problem in our small community. He has recommended comrade Red Liberator to be his successor, and the President has agreed to honour that request.
We bid farewell and best of luck for the future to our outgoing Commissar for External Affairs, and the best of luck to the incoming Commissar, who has the daunting task of living up to the man who has undoubtedly been the best External Affairs (formerly foreign affairs) Commissar the Rodina has ever had.

Back (apparently from the dead) and apologyThe President made the following statement on the forums a short time ago:
Comrades,
Sorry if I have left any of you a little confused over the past two days, I'll try and explain...
I was talking to jT the other night about how I needed some time to catch up with everything as almost every page on the website was out-of-date and he offered to make the necessary "arrangements" to give me a break of a few days. Though my "death" (or at least the death of my alias) seemed a little extreme it appeared to be as good a way as any to give me some quality time to work on the Rodina's infilstructure. I don't know if anyone has even noticed but I have updated almost every page over the last two days, and while there are still a few things that need clearing up I have broken the back of the work.
If I was really dead I'm sure (or at least hope ;)) that jT would write up a slightly less humorous account of my end. It almost brings a tear to my eye to have read the messages of people concerned that I was gone for good. All I can say is thank you all, and that there is no chance of me giving up on our community any time for a long time yet! :)

A NATION MOURNS
It is this Paper's grave duty to announce the saddest news.
A statement was issued by the President's Office earlier today.
To all members of the Party. It is with deepest regret that we must announce the death of our esteemed and beloved leader, President Siberian Fox, who passed away at 22:49 BST on the 8th of August, 2001. The cause of death is not yet clear, early indications are that the President was playing with guns and rabbit holes of the cartoon variety, with jT, former head of the KGB, and that through some bizarre combination of these elements, President Fox was accidentally on purpose shot in the back...
Comrade jT gives his sympathy to the familly of the President, tating that his intentions were solely humorous, and that he hopes no offence will be taken for offing their only son...
The Party will announce the date of the State Funeral and knees-up in the coming days. It is expected to take place very shortly, if we can find enough bits to bury....
The President's Office
The news has hit a Nation already disheartened and saddened by the recent actions of some of its citizens. Although the matter is now resolved and the Nation is now settling back down to business as usual, it is felt that this latest blow will send the Nation into deep mourning and may cause the destabalisation of the State if the new President is not quickly installed. The President's body has been laid in State. Already, many mourners have been so moved as to pay their last respects

As per President Fox's dying wish, an official period of mourning will be in place for one week, during which time no official business will take place except for emergencies. We will, of course, bring more details of the funeral as and when they are announced. It is understood that as an interim measure, Comrade jT will be acting as temporary custodian of the Nation's Public Works. This position may be confirmed upon the good Comrade following the installation of the new President and resumption of official business by the Central Commitee.
It is rumoured that the President's last words, were "The Rodina! Long live the Rodina!", a sentiment that we of For The Motherland echo, and to which we add "Rest in peace, President Fox".

Sunday "Long Live The Rodina!" SummaryWell, as Dmitri isn't about this week I guess I had better fill people in on the weeks developments myself. Now, where to begin? :)
The events of the People's Revolutionary Party congress have led to a vast array of sweeping changes to the way our good community is organised and indirectly to the membership itself. With the advent of the formation of the Party Central Committee in accordance with the People's Revolutionary Party Organisation Act of 21 January 2001, only real communists have been given power in government. This isn't to say that all those not on the committee are not communist, but certainly those that prefer capitalism are not represented. As a result the more childish element of the citizenship has left the community to spam someone else's forum. While the level of forum traffic is likely to be less, the conversations on the forum should be of a higher quality than previously (yes and end to penguins being mentioned in every other post especially).
Also related to the People's Revolutionary Party, the party will henceforth be known as the Communist Party of the Internet. With this new sense of direction from the party congress the C.P.I. will also be planning out a platform for political issues outside of our own community and hopefully eventually have an opinion on just about everything political.
The last two "micro-nation" type communities that we had contacts with were found this week to have been more interested in making plots to interfere in the normal running of our government. The project to work with them via the "C.C.C.P." has therefore been abandoned due to their lack of seriousness.
And finally, after throwing open debate on the name of out community to everyone rather than just accept a name thought up by Siberian Fox during his statement at the beginning of the week, Comrade Sergei came up with the suggestion that most people seemed to like. The simplest and most honest name of them all "The Rodina" was deemed fitting to the nature of our community, as we are communists without any communist Motherland to live in but this small corner of 'cyberspace'. In the words of Comrade A_Monk, when now asked where we are from we will be able to proudly reply "The Rodina! Long Live The Rodina!".
