Duma Voting Rules Act becomes Law

In a bid to ensure the voice of the minority is not sidelined by direct democracy, the People's Revolutionary Party has passed an act which will require all future laws in the PRNSE to have a two thirds majority supporting them. In this way tyranny of the majority is prevented, as 51% of the people cannot have their way over the other 49%. The threshold of two thirds was deemed sufficient to ensure most people agreed with the new legislation without requiring so much support that only a few people could block important new laws for selfish reasons.

The act was passed with 83.33% support, showing that once again the People's Republic of the New Soviet Empire is leading the way in creating a fair society for all!

Mutual recognition agreed between the PRNSE and BTF

Earlier this week President Siberian Fox and Baron Eoin Dornan I (aka 'Funky Wombat') secured an agreement of mutual recognition between the Barony of Treesia and Fabon and the People's Republic of the New Soviet Empire. In a move towards further friendly relations with other micro-nations the signing of the treaty was commented upon by President Siberian Fox as "a significant step in improving relations with those micro-nations who share a sense of humour".

Also on the foreign affairs front, the PRNSE will be putting up a pavilion at the Micro-national World Exposition, which is set to be held in the Republic of Molossia from June 16th, 2001 until September 15th, 2001 and should be a prime opportunity for attracting new citizens.
