FTM Christmas BreakFor The Motherland is going to be taking a break for the next couple of weeks due to Seasonal matters.
Firstly I've got exams on Friday this week and in the week before Christmas (boooo...) then I have relatives visiting over Christmas time and I'm going away for New Year. Between now and going away I'll get the rest of the website updates completed. FTM will of course return in January and cover all the news for the beginning of the USSR 2K.
Until then the only thing left to say is Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Announcing the Determination PartyStatement by Comrade Rika:
We, the Determination Party, are not really a party. We are people, first and foremost. The party is a tool to realize the goals of the man in the street, and nothing else. We are not an elite cadre of some high and mighty oligarchy - we have sweated and toiled until our hands blistered, only to see our gains snatched up and pocketed by the State, whose priorities are not with us, but with their prestige and their wallets. How can we not rally against this injustice? We know what our neighbours and friends experience, are daily confronted with the unfulfilled needs of our loved ones, see our flesh and blood shipped off to die in far-flung countries. So, as free-willed human beings, we intend to stand against anything that will keep us from bettering the fates of the working classes. And we will not rest until the people's voice rings in the streets of Moscow and the halls of the Kremlin.
Our 5-point political programme focuses on: - The necessary alliance between equality and freedom. - Internationalism and non-aggression. - Tolerance and diversity. - A high rate of government accountability. - A progressive, non-partisan and critical attitude.
[I've been cobbling on this party platform for half a year now, and I think it's time it saw some action. I'm still ironing out some minor cinches in the presentation. Again, if anyone has a reliable server to host the Party on, please let me know. Contact me for more info.]
[End statement]
Now available on our website is the political parties webpage, which includes links to the Determination party, it's forums and the NLP. More links will of course be added as and when any new parties have completed websites.

Sparkling New Apartment BlockAnother triumph of Soviet engineering rises about the skyline, and in doing so provides more modern living space for the good citizens of the U.S.S.R. That's right comrades! The citizen's homes webpage is now online. The caption of the poster on the page reads, "Build your home with your own hands!"
There are no pages linked on there just yet as Sergei's is unfinished and WarVoid hasn't got around to putting a link badge on his just yet. Hmm I think it's about time I got around to remaking my own homepage...

National Liberation Party Opens OfficesTripoli, Libya: A small crowd gathered on this partially cloudy morning for the opening ceremony of the National Liberation Parties official offices, which will be the future base of the organisation. Libyan Premier, comrade Van-Diemen cut the ribbon and everyone filed inside for the mornings announcements.
Premier Van-Diemen is upbeat about the nations future after this week having convinced two of his 'real life' comrades to join the nation. This begs the interesting question or whether the Libyan sim is to largely be an offline affair of whether business will still be done on online forums, and if it is done offline, will the minutes of such meeting be published on the web? One such new comrade was mentioned in the statement as being a potential political rival:
"My good friend, Comrade Peter, has registered and set-up his own new party.
The Communist Party of Libya, based very much upon Pro-Soviet lines. It can be best compared to the Brezhnev politics of the former Soviet Union.
The Communist Party of Libya looks to provide a strong voice within the ruling council, and will likely grow with time."
With the Soviet Solidarity Party set to "officially" open its offices in less than a week the establishment of the NLP's offices must surly add some security to their domestic position in advance of the arrival of new citizens.

Soviet Solidarity PartyI've just paid a visit to the web construction site that is to be the home of the Soviet Solidarity Party. The SSP is setting a high standard for others to follow, laying out the party platform on the website with separate sections for economics, social needs, military posture, efficient government and global relations. Currently the only obstruction to comrade Andropov's ambitions to blow the competition out of the water before it even gets started seems to be the fact that he is getting a little cranky about giving up cigarettes. As readers of the U.S.S.R. Yahoo Group will note:
"yeah well i dont care... quitting smoking sucks! its been 12 hours and i'm miserable!!!!!! "
Cigarettes aside I'm told by comrade Andropov that all looks good for the Party to be launched on the 12th of December - in plenty of time for the beginning of the U.S.S.R. simulation - and as soon as it's ready there will be links to the party website and forums added here.

Introduction to the U.S.S.R. OnlineI have uploaded a brief *cough* introduction to the U.S.S.R. which may be viewed here, any feedback is more than welcome as I wrote it at about 2 AM and so I may have rambled a bit. As well as explaining a bit about our community to first time visitors it also sees the return to this website of a certain favourite poster of mine "New Accomplishments Comrades"

Honglong sneak previewComrade Red-Liberator has finally given a sneak preview on the forums of the new website for the Autonomous region of Honglong. The design is quite impressive, and even though R-Lib has said he doesn't like purple, this writer thinks that the purple autonomous region link badge looks quite cool on a black background
Comrade Red-Liberator has let it be known that he is also considering the Reformation of the People's Revolutionary Party, which monopolised the old PRNSE and once totalled a grand 60 members.
On the topic of political parties, comrade Andropov has made a statement in the Red Square in which he states that the Soviet Solidarity Party has no intention of sub-dividing into separate branches, but will remain a cohesive unit. He added however that "we do not claim one nation as our home" hinting that he would not rule out the party running for office in more than one nation from its single unified platform. He also noted that some competition would be good for the development of all parties.

Libya Sim Goes DemocraticVan-Diemen of Libya (a.k.a. comrade Artillery) has announced on the Libya forums that his nation is to become more democratic in nature. In a statement beginning with "I hereby, in the best interests of the people of Libya, initiate Democratic and Electoral laws that will safely govern the people of Libya" the Libyan leader detailed the new system of government and an executive which will contain a Comrade Premier, Agricultural Minister, Defence Minister, Internal Affairs Minister and External Affairs Minister.
This pre-emptive move before the U.S.S.R. Cyber State begins to function in January would appear to be to place Libya in a more attractive position for attracting new citizens. In an interesting development, the formation of the Libyan "National Liberation Party" has also been announced on the same forum. Given that Comrade Andropov is busy building the Soviet Solidarity Party it will be interesting to see if he decides to pursue spreading branches of the S.S.P. into other nations, or indeed, if the National Liberation Party will seek to become an official U.S.S.R. political party and seek to compete with the S.S.P.

New Satellite State To Come?I was just browsing through a few forums at 3 AM in the morning - like ya do - and I decided to drop in on comrade SpetzJoe's "Spetzforum" where I saw that comrade SpetzJoe and his friend comrade AnngryRussian are thinking about running a U.S.S.R. Satellite. The current choices they're considering are:
The Socialist Polity of Illinois The Socialist Polity of Afghanistan The Socialist Polity of Saudi Arabia The Socialist Polity of Kiribati
Whichever they decide upon it will no doubt be an interesting addition to the community. We wait for the results

First U.S.S.R. sites display badgesLike a sparkly new sparkly thing glistening in pride of place, the faster-than-a-speeding-bullet comrade Dafyadd's People's Socialist Republic of Wales was the first website to display one of the new U.S.S.R. link badges, hotly followed buy Great Socialist Libyan Arab Jamahiriya run by comrade Artillery.
There is now a webpage for Satellite States of the U.S.S.R. online which can be viewed here.
Also Comrade TUC's left wing gamers clan which takes it's name from our original government simulation (the People's Republic of the New Soviet Empire) was the first website to display the U.S.S.R. military badge.
Comrade Andropov's site is still in a state of construction and is not due for completion until January 1st. Comrade Red Liberator's site I have not yet seen.

Project CensoredI've added the Project Censored website to the links section of soviet-empire.com.
The site was drawn to my attention by comrade Spetzjoe in his post in the "If I ruled the world" forum about the US government covering up research about possible cancer reducing benefits of cannabis "I have read that delta 6,9 THC (the active ingredient in weed) can actually cure cancer, in addition to lowering the pressure on glaucoma patients' eyes and acting as a strong antiemetic. Read it here:www.projectcensored.org/stories/2001/22.html. You should also check out the other stories on the website. "

U.S.S.R. online websitesWow, it's seems like ages since I actually wrote a proper news article for F.T.M. I apologise for this, as it's been used mostly recently for announcing website updates. I will continue to use FTM for this purpose but I will try and write more articles about what's happening as well.
Well, last week a number of people have come forward saying they would like to do their patriotic duty to the Motherland in the USSR online and make websites for the community. Comrade Red-Liberator has stated his intention for resurrect the former region of the PRNSE known as Honglong as an autonomous region of the USSR. Comrade Dafydd - former leader of the "Democratic Republic of the Skerry Isles" community from the PRNSE times - has decided to lead the People's Socialist Republic of Wales as a satellite state to the USSR. A relatively new comrade on the forums "Artillery" has made a website for Libya and a completely new guy "Dampier" has offered to make a site for Byelorussia. The industrious comrade Andropov has decided to form a party known as the "Soviet Solidarity Party" which is to be located on it's own domain purchased for the task.
For these sites there are now available official badges to show that they are affiliated with the USSR.
You can see a list of all the currently available badges below:
For the personal homepages of citizens of the USSR online.
For political parties in the USSR online.
For autonomous regions of the USSR online, either based on real historical regions of newly created regions.
For the 15 nations that made up the old Soviet Union.
For satellite states of the USSR online.
For sites related to the military of the USSR online.
