MiG-23 'Flogger'

Development/History

The prototype MiG-23 was designed to be the replacement for the MiG-21, it was designated Ye-231G and displayed at the Domodedovo Airport for the first time in July 1967, shortly after its first flight. Pre-production MiG-23s were delivered to the Soviet air force in 1970 and series production followed in 1973. When Mikoyan ended MiG-23 production in the mid 1980s some 1,800 examples had been built. However, production continued in India.

Armament: 1 × 23 mm twin barrelled gun plus seven external attachment points. Typical load is one R-23 ('Apex') AAM under each wing plus four R-60 ('Aphid') and a drop tank. Alternatively, various bombs, rocket pods can be fitted
